UN Resident Coordinator Praises Achievements of the Mine Sector During Four-Year Mission in Cambodia

PHNOM PENH: The UN Resident Coordinator in Cambodia, Pauline Tamesis, praised the achievements of the mine sector over the course of her four-year mission in Cambodia, during a meeting with the First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action Authority (CMAA), Senior Minister Ly Thuch, on Monday morning at the office of the Mine Authority, on the occasion of her farewell.

Ms. Pauline Tamesis expressed her congratulations and appreciation for the leadership of the Royal Government of Cambodia, headed by Prime Minister Hun Sen, which has led the country’s development in all areas and changed the face of Cambodia, something which she said she could clearly observe during her mission in the Kingdom.

In addition, she praised the achievements of the Cambodian mine sector, under the coordination and leadership of the CMAA. She said she will continue to work with the Royal Government in the field of mine action in Cambodia and continue to mobilize resources to support Cambodia's goals until 2025.

She also assessed that the attention of the Royal Government of Cambodia (which has set a clear vision) includes mine action under the 18th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), and has key policies for national development.

On behalf of the Royal Government of Cambodia, Senior Minister Ly Thuch thanked Ms. Pauline Tamesis for providing good friendship, partnerships and cooperation with the Royal Government and the people of Cambodia, as well as for supporting the peacekeeping process, like demining work, during her mission.

He added that since the beginning of her mission as the UN Resident Coordinator in Cambodia in 2018, she has supported the organization of the National Conference on Mine Action and participated in the study and development of the National Strategic Plan for Mine Action 2018-2025.
